vEyes RNP

vEyes RNP (Registro Nazionale Pazienti) - National Patients Register involves the construction of a platform for censusing all people affected by hereditary degenerative retinal dystrophies for which there has been no cure till now, (with particular attention to children, from initial symptoms). Moreover, it collects the personal data of patients and of other family members with the same disease, genetic data (in order to typify patients) and clinical data detected at each periodic check-up, creating a network of clinical centers and laboratories of molecular investigation on the one hand and of patients and their relatives, on the other hand. Thanks to the vEyes RNP project, we are able to provide an infrastructure that supports current clinical trials, aimed, therefore, to search for cures. It allows us to recruit patients related to the experimental protocol, monitor clinical parameters and then test the effectiveness of therapies. The project stipulates that the two databases (personal data and medical/genetic data) are residents in different servers. A dedicated system of web services, with encryption double key, connect two databases.

The student has to develop the web forms for to insert the data related to the patients and to develop the software procedure for the automatic import of data produced by some ocular clinic examination instruments like OCT, ERG, Visual Field, etc. He has to study the integration between the clinical instrumentation and the server, to develop the software for the parsing of internal data and the export to SQL Server database engine and all the tools to import and store any kind of image produced by the clinical tests. For clinical instrumentation, there will be the collaboration of our oculists and of the “Santa Marta” hospital in Catania.
