Abstract
The project aims at conceiving, specifying, implementing and experimenting through real pilot applications, a configurable, adaptive and extensible IoT (Internet of Things) platform that enables the integration and safe and reliable management of smart objects (sensors, smartphones, tablets, programmable equipment, etc.). Based on the adoption of Software-Defined Networks (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV), the platform will be open and interoperable with other existing platforms (e.g. FIWARE) in order to interconnect billions of smart objects and create IoT services and applications. The project aims to promote the platform as the technological catalyst for the creation of an open and dynamic ecosystem on a national and European scale to support IoT applications for both public and private use.
The existing IoT platform will be integrated through patterns that ensure the maintenance of security, privacy, dependability and semantic interoperability of IoT applications. In order to guarantee an increasingly broad and adequate applicability over time, the platform will be able to host new interoperability mechanisms (ie new patterns) and will offer self-adaptation capabilities through the analysis of the application of the patterns in the execution phase (self-evolving). The platform will be validated through application and evaluation in three real pilot scenarios related to the smart energy, smart health and smart manufacturing domains.
