Basic protective measures against the new coronavirus
Stay aware of the latest information on the COVID-19 outbreak, available on the WHO website and through your national and local public health authority. COVID-19 is still affecting mostly people in China with some outbreaks in other countries. Most people who become infected experience mild illness and recover, but it can be more severe for others. Take care of your health and protect others by doing the following:
-
Wash your hands frequently with soap and water, especially after coughing and sneezing or before eating.
-
Avoid close contact with people who have symptoms of respiratory illness.
-
Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth, especially with unwashed hands.
-
When coughing or sneezing, cover your mouth and nose with bent elbow or tissue.
-
Do not take any antiviral/antibiotic drugs, unless directed to do so by a doctor.
-
Clean off surfaces with chlorine or alcohol-based disinfectants.
-
Wear a face mask only if you suspect you are ill, or if you are assisting someone else who is ill.
-
Do not worry about handling anything made or shipped from China.
-
Do not worry about catching coronavirus from a pet.
-
Call the government's coronavirus hotline on 1500 for emergency advice or if you have returned from China in the last 14 days.
